1. A popular Christmas song reminds us that this season can be fun.
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
O’er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bob tails ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to laugh and sing
A sleighing song tonight.
Riding in a one horse open sleigh may not be your type of fun or putting bells on your horse’s bob tail may not make your spirit bright. But discuss what are you are going to do as a married couple during this season that you would both consider fun?
2. There was a lot of joy around the birth of Jesus. Elizabeth was filled with joy when Mary, who was pregnant with Jesus, came to visit her (Luke 1:39ff). Mary was filled with joy and song as Elizabeth talked about the baby in Mary’s womb. The angels were overjoyed as they told the shepherds about Jesus being born (Luke 2:8ff). The shepherds were ecstatic as they saw the baby Jesus and realized what the angels said was true (Luke 2:17ff). Simeon was having a ton of fun as he blessed the baby who was the savior of the world (Luke 2:25ff). The joy of the good news about Jesus has continued to bless the souls of those who believe. What excites you this year about the fact that Jesus came, lived among us, died for us, rose again, and will be coming back for us one day soon?
3. There are a lot of people doing a lot of different things this year to try to enjoy the season. Talk about what you would consider to be the true joys of life that will strengthen your marriage.
