Biblical Marriages, Abraham and Sarah

INTRODUCTION: It is great being able to learn from other people’s successes and failures especially when it comes to the task of honoring God in your marriage.  We are going to learn from some seasoned mentors in the following weeks.  Please prayerfully consider these married couples from the Bible.  Study them, discuss them, and learn from them.

Abraham & Sarah

1.  Read the following passage together.

Hebrews 11:8-12 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; 10 for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God. 11 By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised. 12 Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born as many as the stars of the sky in multitude—innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.

2. Discuss what faith means and looks like to you as a couple.

3.  What are some of the challenges that Abraham and Sarah faced as they lived out there faith according to Hebrews 11:8-12?

4.  What are some of the challenges in your marriage that need a response of faith?

Conclusion:  We will be adding Abraham and Sarah to our ALFC lovescape as an example of a married couple that locked in their love and were faithful to their marital commitment.  Stop by the display in front of the church and remember the lessons learned from their lives.
